recalled to Mildred K. BATES, who wrote in "Planted 1774" the history of
Mount Zion Baptist Church, Dunbrooke, VA, that while living with her
grandparents, one of her WILSON
uncles had wrecked the family surry on a Saturday night and tore up the
fringed top. When she woke up the next morning, it was raining, so she
thought for sure that her grandfather would not expect the family to ride
all the way to St. Stephen
's Church in the rain in a topless surrey. She had not understood her
grandfather's determination. He had the children take up a rug from the
floor of the house and put it on top of the surrey and off to church they
went.After the death of
their WILSON grandparents, Nett and John went to live with their Aunt and
Uncle, Vestilla Frances BEAZLEY and her husband, Thomas Croxton DOGGINS
