B: Abt 1823 1 Male 30-40 Unknown
1 Male 40-50 Henry H. BOUGHAN
1 Female 40-50 Julia WOOD
It is this writer's opinion that Henry and Julia WOOD are probably the
parents of Edward R. BOUGHAN.
!NOTE:
In addition to these suppositions, several other factors lead this writer
to this conclusion:
1) James H. BOUGHAN was an active member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
He is noted several times in Mildred K. BATES' book, "Planted 1774"
(pages 108 & 131). On both of these pages, in the copy of "Planted"
in the possession of this writer, James Irving BROOKS, Sr. made footnotes
indicating that James H. BOUGHAN was a relation of both he and his wife,
Marian Elizabeth BOUGHAN.
2) On page 135, Mildred made note that Richard Peachey BANKS married
Martha
Anne BOUGHAN, the daughter of Henry BOUGHAN. The BANKS homeplace,
"HOWARD GROVE" was reportedly a dowry from Martha Anne's father and was
originally part of the WOOD'S estate. Henry married Julia WOOD. Again,
JIB makes a relationship with both him and his wife.

Some researchers also place Theodore Pierson BOUGHAN in this family.

Inquisition into the death of George CROW (who may be the father Sarah
CROW, wife of James CROXTON) by Benjamin BOUGHAN. Benjamin BOUGHAN was
the ward of Henry H. BOUGHAN. Henry seems to have had many wards and his
name can be found often in the guardian books.!
!MARRIAGE:

Henry H. BOUGHAN & Julia, his wife, sold land to Fontaine WOOD. Deed
signed by Henry and Julia.

land was bounded by James DURHAM, Francis COLEMAN and Henry H. BOUGHAN.
The deed was witnessed by E.R. BOUGHAN. This establishes that E.R.
BOUGHAN was familiar with Henry H. BOUGHAN.
[Essex County, VA, Deed Book 47, Page 301, 21 Mar 1842]
Indenture between Henry H. BOUGHAN and Muscoe GARNETT, the lawyer. Henry
acquirred property (slaves) by marriage to his present wife, Elizabeth,
and he sold those slaves to Muscoe GARNETT to hire for her benefit.

wife of Richard P. BANKS "for and in consideration of the natural

!DEATH:
[Essex County, VA, Order Book 50, Page 253, 21 Aug 1843]
Richard A. BOUGHAN motions the court of Essex for the Sheriff to take
into his hands the estate of Henry H. BOUGHAN, dec'd, and that he
administer the same according to the law. This means that Henry had died
intestate and that the court had to seize what property it could to
satisfy his debtors.
[Essex County, VA, Order Book 50, Page 254, 21 Aug 1843]
James H. BOUGHAN, Richard P. BANKS and Martha A. BANKS his wife, who
before her intermarriage was Martha A. BOUGHAN, Edward R. BOUGHAN,
Theodore P. BOUGHAN, the
last two whom are infants under 21 years of age by Richard A. BOUGHAN

BOUGHAN, trustees, in a deed of trust executed... This document
