Letter to JIB from his Aunt Fannie McTyre (Mrs. Warner BEAZLEY): Ephriam
is said to have come to Essex County from "western VA", about 1750. He
bought Mt. Landing Farm in Essex County at about that time.
!NOTE:
There was an Ephriam record in the 1787 VA CENSUS in Culpeper County, VA
and two other Ephriam BEAZLEY's that lived in Spotsylvania County, VA, in
the early 1800's. Our Ephraim lived in Culpeper County in 1787.

Will lists the names of 28 negroes.
Ephraim signed his name.

BEAZLEY, Ephraim. S.6597. Sep 1832 - Essex County, VA, Ephraim BEAZLEY
of South Farnham Parish, aged 70, declares he enlisted in Oct 1779, under
Sgt. SCANDALAN in the regiment of Col. PORTERFIELD and Maj. Charles
MAGILL in the company of Capt. Opie DAVENPORT and Lt. BERRY. He served
about five months at Williamsburg and the neighborhood and then marched
with a detachment of the said regiment commanded by Capt. John VAUGHAN to
the south and was in the battle of Camden, SC, on 16 Aug 1780, when Gen.
GATES was defeated and Baron de Kalb killed on the battlefield. Shortly
after this, Col. PORTERFIELD died of a wound received in the battle. He
marched in a detachment of Capt. VAUGHAN and Lt. BERRY, having in custody
some prisoners, for Winchester, VA, but fell sick and was unable to
proceed farther than Richmond, VA. After his recovery, he was again
attached to the company of Capt. VAUGHAN and remained in the country
bordering on James River until the latter part of Dec 1789 when he
marched as a guard to Gen. WEEDEN's baggage to Fredericksburg, VA, where
being sick he entered the hospital and remained five or six months, and
being unfit for service was permitted to return home. He did not recover
his health until the termination of war. He received a warrant for 200
acres which he sold to Robert S. NOEL.
18 Nov 1811, Essex County, VA, John ARMSTRONG certifies that Ephraim
BEAZLEY enlisted in 1779 in the State Garrison in the City of
Williamsburg under Col. Charles PORTERFIELD, during the war.
19 Aug 1819, Military warrant 6328 for 200 acres was issued by the VA
Land Office to Ephraim BEAZLEY for his revolutionary service as a private
during the war.
18 Feb 1833, Essex County, VA. Ephraim BEAZLEY, aged 71 on the first day
of the month, declares he enlisted as a private for the war about 1 Oct
1779...He then resided in Caroline County, VA... (Born 1762). After the
war, about 1784, he moved from Caroline to Culpeper County and in 1791
returned to Caroline County. In 1794 he was drafted and marched in a
company commanded by Capt. SUTTON against insurgents in PA and was
engaged about four months. The field officers were Gen. WASHINGTON, Gen.
MORGAN, Gen. LEE and Gen. MATTHEWS. In 1795 he moved to Essex County for
three years, then to Richmond County three years, and about 1801 returned
to Essex County where he has lived ever since.
Ephraim BEAZLEY of Essex County, VA, private...was placed on the VA
pension roll at $80.00 per annum under the Act of 1832. Certificate 6911
was issued 8 Mar 1833.

Essex County.
